“The Rexel Group has been a member of the UN Global Compact since 2011. For us, it is a powerful and symbolic commitment to human rights and labor standards, protecting the environment, and fighting corruption. We will continue to strive to apply these universal principles through concrete initiatives and to promote them among our partners. It is a collective support and continuous improvement process, and we reaffirm our desire to contribute to it.”
Guillaume Texier, Chief Executive Officer of Rexel
Every year, on April 22nd, Earth Day marks the anniversary of the birth of the modern environmental movement in 1970. Earth Day 1970 would come to provide a voice to this emerging environmental consciousness and put environmental concerns on the front page. The Earth Day 2022 theme #InvestinOurPlanet focuses on involving more than 1 billion people, governments, institutions, and businesses to recognize the collective responsibility for our shared planet.
Rexel is committed to accelerating its Sustainability (Environment, Social & Governance, or “ESG”) plans in 2022 and in the years to come. Focusing on the Environment part of ESG, one of the first Groupwide awareness campaigns will revolve around Earth Day, April 22, 2022, encouraging each Rexel country, branch, and employee to get involved with their colleauges, customers, suppliers, and communities. Earth Day 2022 at Rexel will focus on communicating the Group’s long-standing environmental commitments during this special worldwide celebration.
Sustainable Development in a nutshell
Sustainable Development: Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
There are three dimensions to Sustainable Development – society, environment, and economy – which are all intertwined. Sustainability is a paradigm for thinking about the future in which environmental, societal, and economic considerations are balanced in the pursuit of an improved quality of life.
Rexel shares with the entire electricity sector a major responsibility in the challenges around the fight against climate change, economic and social progress, as well as access to energy for all. The Group has made these issues one of the drivers of its growth and intends to play a catalytic role in Sustainable Development thanks to its unique position in the energy value chain.
For example, did you know that nearly 50% of Rexel’s sales contribute to the energy transition? And that Rexel evaluates the CSR performance of its suppliers? 187 suppliers, representing 64% of the Rexel Group’s direct purchases, were evaluated at the end of 2021.
